I haven’t had the opportunity to dedicate a great deal of time to the new Fox Sports 1 station that launched this past Saturday–namely because I’m an old fart anymore these days, and I know what staying up past 10:30 does to me the next day, so I try my best to just avoid that and save everyone I come in contact with the joy that is a cranky Rob. But despite my inability to watch, the show has gone on. And the reviews have been rolling in.
Jay Onrait and Dan O’Toole, the anchors for the new Fox Sports 1 nightly highlights show “FOX Sports Live” (which airs at 11 pm EST and is supposed to compete with that other late-night sports recap show) took the time to go through some of those reviews one by one. The result is the pretty hilarious 5 minute clip you see above.
From what I’ve seen, the station is a lot of NASCAR and UFC during typically off-hours with several interesting shows sprinkled in between. (I don’t care what people think, having Regis Philbin back on the air is incredible. And Howie, Jimmy, Terry, and Michael having a daily show kicks a lot of ass.) I’d say it’s far from a bust, but also far from being a thorn in that other network’s side–granted, it’s not even a week old yet, while that other station (if you haven’t caught on yet, I’m dragging this graph out just so I can keep saying “that other station” without ever having to actually say what that other sports network’s name actually is) has been in the business for 34 years.
I’m sure as time go on–so long as Fox Sports 1 is given the opportunity to remain on-air–things will only get better. And who knows, maybe one day they’ll actually challenge that other network for the title of “Worldwide Leader in Sports.”
